Perry is the child of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). Her first TV roles included two episodes as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in The ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mom. Perry was forbidden to begin acting by her parents until she reached the age of adulthood because they were afraid of the strain it might cause. Perry, who was too timid to perform in the school, began performing in the theater at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new friends. After graduating Perry relocated to New York to search for jobs on television, landing small parts in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent However, she was stricken by homelessness and brought her back to California and she was able to find theatre jobs. Perry performed with her mom as part of The Other Place at Broadway at the end of 2013. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was staged in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry appeared in nine episodes of The Family, an ABC crime thriller The Family in 2016. In 2017, Perry starred in a role on ABC's political thriller Scandal with her father. That same year she portrayed a child character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother as a young version. The character was picked through an audition, even the fact that she had a deep association with it.
